Ballet - a classical dance form demanding grace and precision and employing formalized steps and gestures set in intricate, flowing patterns to create expression through movement. The foundation for all dance styles. Offered in age 3 and up. Dress code: tights, leotard, skirt/spanks, ballet slippers, hair up. (no baggy clothes)
Pointe - designed for students with previous ballet training. Students will utilize previously learned ballet technique while working in pointe shoes. Each class includes barre exercises, center floor work and across the floor combinations. These exercises focus on strengthening the feet and ankles. Offered for grade 5 and up. Must be taking ballet class as well. Dress code: tights, leotard, skirt/spanks, pointe shoes, hair up. (no baggy clothes)
Tap - a dance in which the rhythm or rhythmical variation is audibly tapped out with the toe or heel by a dancer wearing shoes with special hard soles or with taps. Dress code: tights, leotard OR workout leggings, workout tshirt/tank top with tap shoes, hair up
Jazz - combines techniques of classical ballet and modern dance with the current forms of popular dance. Jazz also has its own movement vocabulary ranging from the isolation of certain body parts to the movement of the entire body with the accents of musical rhythms. Dress code: tights, leotard OR workout leggings, formfitting tank top with jazz shoes and hair up.
Acrobatics - combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. It is defined by its athletic character, its unique choreography, seamlessly blends dance and acrobatics, and its use of acrobatics in a dance context. Dress code: tights, leotard, hair up. (no baggy clothes)
Contemporary - is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. Dress code: tights, leotard OR workout leggings and formfitting tank, hair up.
Hip - Hop - refers to street dance styles primarily performed to mostly upbeat, hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. Dress code: tights, leotard OR workout leggings, workout sweats, workout shorts, any top, sneakers.
Strength and Conditioning - focuses on building core strength, stability in joints, awareness of weaknesses and areas of inflexibility and increasing endurance. These exercises include, but are not limited to pilates, yoga, and strength exercises. This class is designed to equip pre-professional dancers with the tools they need to achieve their goals. Dress code: tights, leotard OR workout leggings, formfitting tank, hair up. (no baggy clothes)
Dance Company - MSD's 'In Motion' dance company requires audition. In Motion practices and performs all styles offered at the dance studio. In Motion is known as our convention team, which travels to various conventions to learn from other dance professionals in master classes as well as perform at various events. Offered to age 13 and up.
